This is why you need resolutions
2015 has already begun. Many are excited and we know as people we constantly want to accomplish things and better ourselves in one way or the other. After all the vacation and celebrations of the New Year, It is important to make time and think about a list of things you want to achieve in 2015. You may not see the importance of having goals and objectives, and you may be discouraged by the fact that you couldn't stick to your resolutions the previous year. You may also be discouraged by people telling you of the possibility of abandoning your resolutions 3 months down the line. Let me tell you that you will be surprised that the same people that are planting negativity in your mind actually "do have" a list of goals kept somewhere. But it’s just in people to try act smart and cool about things.
I believe people who achieve things begin by having a picture of what they want. Whether they write it down or not, what matters is that they have the picture in mind. So do yourself a favour put together a list of goals and you will reap the benefits of doing so.
Below we look into why you need to have resolutions and how you can stick to them until the end of the year and accomplish them. You may have noticed that I am using the words “Goals, Resolutions and Objectives” to refer to what you want to achieve. I am doing this because the word “Resolution” has been scratched out by many and it’s associated with negativity. Call them goals, objectives, targets or resolutions…it doesn't really matter; you need to have that list.
First here is a list of why it’s important to have resolutions:
Clarity
Compiling a list of objectives will give you clarity of what you need to achieve. To be productive, it is vital that you stay clear of what it is you really want to achieve.
Focus
Another result of setting goals will be focus and determination towards reaching those goals. Your mind can easily be consumed by many other things that won’t lead you towards your goals but a list of goals will always remind you of what you value the most and what you want to achieve.
Opportunity
With resolutions you are creating an opportunity to improve yourself. Life gets hectic, we get crushed and sometimes the best way to get up is through starting afresh and developing new habits. Resolutions are very good at giving people the feeling of starting all over again. By setting goals you make it even more practical and you start to take the resolutions seriously.
Now that we understand the importance of resolutions, let’s look at how you can make them a reality and stick to them throughout the year:
Take them serious
First thing you need to do is to take your resolutions serious to point where if you go a long time without doing something that will lead you towards your goals you get worried. Take responsibility over your goals and know that if you fail to reach them you are the one to blame.
Don’t set resolutions out of excitement
Many people will set resolutions out of excitement, because you heard your peers talking about objectives that seemed interesting and you decide to copy them. This may cause you to fail in accomplishing those goals because once the excitement is gone you will lose interest. Losing interest in one goal may affect your entire list. It is primitive to make time to think of what you really want to achieve.
Share with your family and mentor
Sharing goals with family helps you realize how much of a big deal your resolutions are. In most cases your family will show some support and encourage you. Your goals may be spiritual, studies, fitness or career related. If you have a mentor or tutor for example it is worth sharing the goal with them. They will give you some extra advice.
Break your resolutions into pieces
Break your resolutions into finer pieces/steps so you can see them in more detail. This will make your life much easier and you will gain motivation as you complete each piece/step. Completing small steps will also pave way for other bigger steps. Eventually you will come to reach your objectives.
Refer and reflect
Constantly reflect on everything you learn or do daily to see if you are working towards your goals. If not then you know something has to change.
Make goals with meaning
Make goals with meaning: While browsing pins on pinterest I came across an interesting pin that went like “Don’t set goals that seem easy to achieve but set goals that will have meaning and add value to your life”. I would like to believe that this statement is clear. Goals and resolutions are supposed to make better people.
